Serving the needs of tomorrow, today
As a champion of shipping decarbonization, DNV has assumed a leading role in the classification of gas carriers whose evolution continues to inspire modified and new rule sets, as well as the use of alternative fuels and ground-breading technologies.
The increased focus on transporting LNG and LPG, nascent segments such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2), and the need for full ship lifecycle services has catapulted DNV into in the forefront of the fast-developing sector. Our position at the leading edge of the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) classification market also allows us to provide holistic support when considering broader supply chains, both technical and commercial.
Gas Carrier Excellence Centre (GCEC)
DNV’s GCEC together with our Global Gas Support Network (GGSN) is our internal competence hub responsible for all matters related to vessels carrying liquefied gas. Customers now have a single point of contact for all issues relating to gas carriers, including the continuous development and maintenance of our class rules, guidelines and instructions both for vessels and gas fuel tanks. We perform design approval of ship and machinery piping and cargo containment and handling systems.
We provide technical support to all relevant stakeholders, such as shipowners, sub-suppliers, yards and authorities during all stages of the gas carrier lifecycle – from early-phase concept evaluation to approval of newbuilding documentation and support to vessels in operation. Our experts also apply and adapt DNV’s rule framework during assessments and approvals of novel technologies.
