Energy Access
Supporting investments in renewable, reliable, and affordable energy across emerging markets
DNV’s energy access practice focuses on supporting investments in renewable, reliable, and affordable energy across emerging markets. The team is formed by members of our energy storage advisory department, and supports utility-scale deployments of renewables, grid-strengthening, and mini-grids throughout the developing world.
DNV’s scope typically covers independent engineering, owner’s engineering, and technology reviews to support all aspects of bankable projects in these domains.
Why energy access?
Our work in this sector is based on our commitment to helping achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established in 2015. SDG #7 is for the world to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy” by 2030.
Grid operators around the world are looking to transition from fossil fuel generation to more renewable assets, increase grid collections, or to expand aging grids while avoiding excess cost and disruption. DNV is a leader in technical and strategic consulting for the energy industry, working to expand existing power grids and facilitate the construction of new power grids in developing countries. Our team includes engineers with grid-design and grid-planning experience, policy advisors familiar with financing and long-term goals, and distribution specialists knowledgeable in metering and anti-theft technology. Our experts leverage vast international experience to help operators accomplish these goals in cost-effective ways, increasing reliable, affordable, sustainable power for all.
Our energy access work is primarily focused in three sectors: greening the grid, grid-strengthening and off-grid microgrids. To learn more about our energy access service, download our brochure.
